Cozumel
History and Overview:
Set in the midst of brilliant blue waters of the Caribbean. The combination of spectacular coral reefs, located just off the southwestern coast, and the exceptional clarity of the water has made the island a diver’s haven. But the natural beauty and tropical serenity of Cozumel will appeal to nearly everyone.
There are two different kinds of beaches on Cozumel. On the west coast of the island facing the Mexican mainland you’ll find stretches of golden sand, often with all the amenities of a beach club. On the east side facing the Caribbean Sea, quiet beaches alternate with rocky shores along the vast expanses of this solitary coast. Waters on the more populated west side are generally calm, while the roaring surf on the east creates slightly rougher conditions.
Outdoor Activities:
Cozumel is renowned as one of the greatest diving destinations in the world. You can take advantage of the Caribbean waters by swimming or trying other water sports like windsurfing and parasailing. Tennis and horseback riding are also popular activities on the island.
Shopping and Nightlife:
Village shops offer great buys on items originating in Mexico, such as jewelry, leather.
goods, clothing and the native arts and crafts for which Mexico is famous. Cozumel is a quiet little island, with many great restaurants in which to enjoy wonderfully fresh seafood and local specialties.
