History and Overview:

Blending into the lush green backdrop of the Sierra Madres, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo lies along a hilly, tropical coastline and is surrounded by dozens of white sandy beaches. Though the two areas are markedly different in habitat and style, they still share that same wonderful sense of Mexican Hospitality.

Ixtapa was developed as a planned community by the Mexican government in the 1970’s, It’s design relies on a spatial and ecological awareness; all hotels and residences are proportional to their land area, allowing vacationers and natural terain to co-existing a mutually compatible environment. The hotel zone in Ixtapa is located on a beautiful stretch of white sand beach. Ixtapa offers the modern conveniences of shopping, entertainment and deluxe leisure activities.

Nearby, the village of Zihuatanejo, meaning “land of women,” offers a more informal setting. Today, the local economy prospers because of its agricultural wealth and visitor industry. In the heart of this charming pueblo is a sheltered harbor and beaches providing a gateway to dense jungle clad hills. Zihuatanejo has a few family run inns and modestly priced hotels. And also three deluxe properties, one of these being the Hotel Villa Del Sol.

Outdoor Activities:

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo does not compromise in its mission to provide tranquility, relaxation and the enjoyment of and unhurried lifestyle. Guest can enjoy world class golf and excellent tennis facilities. The calm Pacific surf is ideal for watersports, with over 25 dive sites ranging form coral reefs, rocky islets and sunken shipwrecks. Snorkeling, deep- sea fishing and horse back riding are also easily arranged. A beautiful place to spend the day and do some snorkeling or relaxing on the beach is Ixtapa Island. Just a short water taxi ride from Playa Linda beach in Ixtapa.

You’ll find a glamorous collection of deluxe hotels, marinas, restaurants and nightclubs in Ixtapa, each with its own distinct architecture and ambiance. The resort areas provide the best shopping opportunities. With Zihuatanejo’s seaside cafes, intriguing native markets, seaside promenade, and centuries of tradition make this area a joy to explore.
